Located in Monroe North Carolina, Monroe Lodge has been serving its community since 1866. Since the 18th century, the Freemasons of North Carolina have sought to unite good men of all backgrounds and make them better husbands, fathers, and citizens by encouraging and cultivating friendship, morality, and brotherly love.
Freemasonry is a fraternal organization. A fraternity that can trace its existence back to the guilds of the Middle Ages. It exists in all free nations as a place for good men to gather, find a friend, and better themselves with the support of these men.
Our members are taught its principles (moral lessons and self-knowledge) by a series of ritual dramas—a progression of allegorical "degrees" which are learned by heart and performed within each Lodge— which follow ancient forms and use stonemasons' customs and tools as allegorical guides.
Freemasonry instills in its members a moral and ethical approach to life: its values are based on integrity, kindness, honesty, and fairness. Members are urged to regard the interests of the family as paramount but, importantly, Freemasonry also teaches concern for people, care for the less fortunate, and help for those in need.
What is Freemasonry you ask? No man nor one brother can answer for the whole of the craft. But to the author of this page, it's a fraternity who binds its members by a common agreement to behave in the same manner. One that teaches morality through the initiatory experience. It reinforces its teaching through allegory and study. Its product is charity, its bonds are brotherly love and affection and it's not for everyone. That makes it a jewel in our society, one both loved and reviled. It's in the small groups that you will find the true operating craft. Freemasonry requires study and meditation. It’s a beautiful system of morality veiled in allegory and illustrated by symbols.
We support our community, each other and practice charity.
Yearly, we host guest speakers, performers and events to enjoy, to educate ourselves and families.
All masons are proud of their community. We strive to cheerfully support it, and encourage those around us to do so as well. Through our appendant organizations and exhibitions.
Beginning in 1873 Masons in North Carolina have helped over 11,000 Children in need through its Home in Oxford NC.
Our Masonic Home in Greensboro is a 5-star senior living facility offering through our charity, outreach and accommodations to those in need. Since 1911, the home has helped those in need find a secure and safe place in life where they always find a helping hand.
There is nothing like a road trip to bring a band of men together in fellowship. Especially after a good meal and welcome from your host. As masons travel throughout the state and world in every community, they will find a stranger who quickly becomes a friend.
We recognize those members of our community who exemplify our principals of fraternal love, relief and truth.
We are located on East Franklin Street just down the road from the hospital. We are hard to miss with that big Square and Compass on the Wall!
